Did you ever hear the old saying, “you never get a second chance to make a first impression”? This is more important today than ever before. Why? Because we have become a society influenced by visual cues. If you have any doubts, just look at the ever-rising popularity of Instagram, Pinterest and SnapChat. Because of this phenomenon, photos and advertisements have to catch people’s attention instantly or they move on. The same thing goes for your appearance; how you look most certainly influences how you are first perceived.
Instill Confidence in Your Patients
Your patients want to feel good about the choices they make regarding their health care; they want to know that the person attending to their needs is competent and equipped to take care of them. A patient’s first impression of you is extremely important. So, in addition to having neat and orderly hair (a fresh haircut is always good!) and sneakers that don’t look like you’ve been wearing them to work in the yard all summer, wearing scrubs with a professional appearance helps you exude a sense of confidence. That’s where we come in. With TiScrubs and how easy they are to care for (wash, dry and go!), you won’t look like you just rolled out of bed to come to work. Wearing TiScrubs let’s your patients know “I am ready to work with you and my head is in the game.”
Sports teams wear uniforms for a reason, just like you do. A uniform not only shows who plays on what team and sometimes even what their responsibilities are, but it also shows that they are there for a particular reason and ready to work. Wearing a TiScrubs uniform can do the same. Your patients will know who is part of your organization and who is perhaps another patient, for example. Wearing the same uniform brand or color also shows team spirit, and is a good way of ensuring that the concept of “professional appearance” is not an individual concept but one that reflects the type of organization you have.
Influence Your Reputation
A jump to judgment can cloud perceptions on every level. We would all like to be judged on our skills and abilities but the truth is perception is reality. Dress unprofessionally and they will look at the clothes. Dress professionally and they will talk about your performance and level of service.
Unfortunately, judging someone on the way he or she is dressed is a fact of life.
The Proof is in the Study
An online study that was published in the Journal of Fashion Marketing and Management had some interesting findings with regard to clothing and perception. 274 participants rated four images on five characteristics: confidence, success, trustworthiness, salary and flexibility. The subject wore a custom-fitted suit in one set of photos, and a regular suit in another. The subject of the photos was faceless. The ratings were based on clothing alone.
The photos with the custom-tailored suit rated better on all attributes, with the exception of trustworthiness. The study went on to conclude that even minor difference in clothing can communicate different information to perceivers. The evidence further indicated that a well-tailored presentation can positively influence what is communicated to others.
When choosing a set of scrubs for an office or organization, oversized, drawstring scrub pants and a boxy scrub top may not be enough to influence the degree of confidence you want to project. A more fitted, stylish, sleek appearance is just what is needed to influence the way others perceive the way you look. TiScrubs give you just that!
